Garage Insulation Basics

garage insulationThe garage is often an overlooked area of the house when it comes to saving on electricity. The reason being is that we rarely hang around our garages. We usually just park our car there and enter our home. Others use this area for storage and just go there when they need to get some of their things. However, it is important to know that insulation is also essential in our garages. We need to keep the garage warm to prevent wear and tear of our vehicle and its paint. Insulation of the garage can help in maintaining the garage temperature especially when it is extremely cold or hot outside.

Stop any cold air infiltrating into the garage area. Place weather-stripping down where the garage door meets the ground. For garage with a door entrance from the outside ensure the seal is intact and no air is passing through the frame. If required use expanding foam to fill in gaps. These are small steps that may cost around $80.

Spots on stainless steel: Do not use stainless steel cleaner. In its place, use a glass cleaner, that does not contain ammonia and alcohol, to polish your stainless applications. Difficult to remove decals: Use WD-40 to spray on decals and its surrounding area. Try to spray under decals, if possible. Keep it that way for some time, then gently scrape the decal with the help of a credit card or any similar card. Then wash away the decal area with soap to remove the grease.

Stale Odor: Put a few droplets of vanilla extract or lemon oil in the air filters to cover a musty odor in the air. You can also place a couple of drops of vanilla extract or lemon oil on some cotton balls and set them in your air vents to work as a constant air freshener.

Lack of water pressure in shower: if there is a lack of water pressure in your shower that means it could be blocked with mineral deposits. Take off the shower head and immerse it for a night in vinegar solution. A combination of hot water and CLR calcium dissolving solution in equal amounts can also work in just few minutes.
