Solar Water Heaters

In the recent years, American home owners have made the switch to solar water heaters. When you learn the reasons why, you will want to make the switch yourselves.

Usually, the energy that is used to heat water is mainly sourced from fossil fuels. When fossil fuels are burned it releases carbon which is a green house gas that is a cause for global warming. The simple act of heating water in your home is a cause for long term impact on our environment. We’ve already caused enough damage and its time we minimize our carbon footprint further damage. This reason alone is a good reason to not use regular water heaters. With Solar water heaters, its energy source is the sun which is renewable and free. This means that not only do you have a water heater that is environment-friendly but also has low maintenance cost.

Difficult to remove decals: Use WD-40 to spray on decals and its surrounding area. Try to spray under decals, if possible. Keep it that way for some time, then gently scrape the decal with the help of a credit card or any similar card. Then wash away the decal area with soap to remove the grease.

Stale Odor: Put a few droplets of vanilla extract or lemon oil in the air filters to cover a musty odor in the air. You can also place a couple of drops of vanilla extract or lemon oil on some cotton balls and set them in your air vents to work as a constant air freshener.

Lack of water pressure in shower: if there is a lack of water pressure in your shower that means it could be blocked with mineral deposits. Take off the shower head and immerse it for a night in vinegar solution. A combination of hot water and CLR calcium dissolving solution in equal amounts can also work in just few minutes.

Green Home Building

There are three major kinds of green home building, which is a kind of eco-friendly construction. These usually incorporate buildings constructed or remodeled with renewable or sustainable materials, structures, and energy efficient homes with both qualities; operate in an Eco friendly manner and made with ecological materials. Many of those created using green home building plans are likewise intended to be more advantageous for visitors and residents.

Green homes renovated or built with sustainable; additionally infrequently known as renewable- materials are products and items that are recycled, recyclable, or can be replenished. For instance, when a home or building is broken down, or a part of it is obliterated, a few organizations recover any building materials that can be utilized as a part of making other homes. As indicated by the U.S. EPA (Environmental Protection Agency), some reclaimed building materials incorporate knot free wood, wide plank lumber, hardwood floors, antique fixtures, and marble fireplace mantles. Utilizing recycled materials to manufacture or remodel a house is another kind of green home building. Reprocessed/recycled home building materials might be used items, things that have been reconstructed or reconditioned, or items that are made from reprocessed parts.

Now the next and 2nd type of green home is “energy efficient”.  It can develop from many places. For example, setting up energy efficient appliances that need less energy or require less water to function, is more effective and could make a house more green. Appropriate insulation is also another way to increase energy usage in the home. A solar roof can make a home more green, it is another level of energy efficiency.

The last type is hybrid, which means having both the features; made with renewable material and is energy efficient as well. A newly constructed home, made of renewable, recycled, or sustainable materials, incorporating energy efficient features such as insulation, HVAC systems, and appliances considered to be a hybrid green home building. This type of home is very beneficial as it offers all the health benefits and provide an Eco friendly environment. While it might be essential for some new parts to be utilized as a part of constructing a home, the less waste made as well as the more reused materials are added, the more “green” the house is.

Apart from these options, you can also opt for different choices such as getting a wool made carpet. So try different options as well.

Radiant Barriers for Energy Efficiency

Radiant barriers are comprised of aluminum foil and other reflective materials. They are installed in a building structure to maintain the temperature, such as in homes to keep the keep inside or outside out of the house. Why install these?  Because they are directly proportional to a more comfortable temperature and reduced energy bills. They are mostly installed on a roof deck’s underside as well as on a gable ends’ inner surface, or any other appropriate straight areas in an attic. The objective is to protect a building’s insulation from absorbing heat.

It can be positioned under the roofing materials. This will protect the home from the heat, as the sun will be redirected elsewhere and the flow will not follow the downward direction. This is how a radiant barrier keeps a property cool. If we are able to shift back the incoming thermal radiation, we will be able to keep the house cool; this same thing is done by a radiant barrier.  Keep in mind that the technique to install radiant barriers may vary depending on the roof.  Different techniques must be taken if the home is new or existing.  For instance, radiant barriers can be used on houses that are just being constructed, and aluminum foil may be used on houses that homeowners want to customize that are already existing.

Almost every installation of radiant barrier needs a gap or air space; this is because the radiant barrier requires space to work in a proper way.  People living in humid area should not overlook this gap, as ignoring this will lead to moisture, which is not safe for the property.  This often happens in the southern United States, where humidity is a way of life.  If your attic traps moisture, it will become a place of mold, critters, or even deterioration.  So that gap, which provides air flow, is essential to maintain your attic.

Types of Radiant Barriers

There are many types of radiant barriers and you simply cannot tell which type will best suit your home without understanding the characteristics of each.  The most common type of barriers are:

  • Single and double-sided foil
  • Foil faced
  • Barrier chips

The insulation, as well as the reinforcement used in construction, will determine which type of radiant barrier will be ideal for the home. Chips are ideal for attic floor.  It is always best to let a trained professional determine the best radiant barrier for your home.

Do you know that a perfectly installed radiant barrier can restrict or block 90% of the heat?  Yes, it is a proven fact. That is why radiant barriers are popular, as they will not only save you money on your power bill, but they will make your home more comfortable in general. They not only block the sunlight, they also block the heat and allow homeowners to save on utility bills.

Green Home Products

The greener we live, the better we can contribute to this planet.  Living in an eco-friendly way and with an ecological conscience mindset will make sure that our kids as well as grandkids will appreciate our efforts and enjoy their lives on this planet.  This all starts with installing as many green products as possible in your home or business.

Saving Energy for a Greener Tomorrow

When deciding to renovate or build a new home, don’t forget about the environment. Why? Because green homes are not only good for our planet, they are more advantageous for our families as well.  Using renewable material (non-toxic) will you save money for many years, as well as keep your house free of synthetic pollutants.  Most of the people think that green materials are only advantageous due to their energy efficiency; however, these materials are not treated with excessive chemicals, and this is also an advantage.  A great example of this material that is a green material, is spray polyurethane foam insulation.  This is installed in your attic, and will vastly improve the energy efficiency of your home.  Spray Foam Orlando, in Orlando, FL, did the spray foam at our business, and it has made a big difference in our power bill.

So what are those hazardous chemicals that can create a hazard in your home?  Benzene in paints and sealants, fungicide in lumber, formaldehyde in insulation, and more. Don’t use these dangerous chemicals if you want to make your home green, clean, and safe.  A green, as well as an eco-friendly home, is comfortable, well-sealed, easier to maintain, and energy efficient.  You should always be very protective of any materials that enter your home or business, and never allow toxic materials to enter.

Another valuable home material that creates great energy efficiency, is spray foam that is installed in your block walls.  This spray foam is injected into the block from the outside of the home, and the spray foam fills all gaps within the wall, and thereby greatly increase the R-value of that wall making your home much more energy efficient.  This is performed by drilling into the wall from the exterior of the home, and then injecting through that hole.  Spray foam insulation can be installed in the following areas:

  • Roof deck
  • Crawl spaces
  • Block wall
  • Underside of decks

Solar Energy

Solar energy is a part of green home concept; a crucial one. You can also consider installing solar energy products in your home, such as solar panels, solar water heaters, and more.  Yes, this is the only expensive investment you would have to do for building a green home; however, it will be the best. The whole system will be expensive, but it will allow you to save energy, which means you will get lower power bills. So, naturally, you will be able to save more money than you are going to invest.  Therefore, it is a good choice for a long term.  Using renewable energy sources will benefit you economically, financially, and you will be able to make your life better.

Green products for your home are very important for energy efficiency, saving money, and becoming a more eco-friendly person.  Spray foam insulation and solar energy products are great ways to achieve this, and if you take daily steps toward this goal, you will eventually create a green home environment.

Planting Grass Seeds

Seeding a garden or yard can be a lot of fun as well as add value to your home. The process of planting grass seeds is simple and anybody can do it without professional help. However, effective steps should be followed by homeowners to ensure you are successfully planting grass seeds.  Nothing can make your home come to life like a beautiful lawn, along with a little love for your home’s landscape.

These are the 3 main factors to consider in planting grass seeds:

  1. Time of year
  2. Quality of the seeds
  3. Soil preparation

Time of the Year

Timing is very important and crucial when it comes to planting grass seeds. The best time is usually in the fall, as well as the spring. If you complete the planting in the fall, then the sowing will be done in a very efficient manner before the first frost begins, permitting the seeds to germinate. This is the best way to ensure a successful lawn or garden. Here are some additional quick fixes to improve your home.

Solar Equipment Maintenance

One reason that many solar panels do not work at peak efficiency is that they’re dirty. Many homeowners do not realize that occasional cleaning of your solar equipment is critical for proper performance. Many homeowners never do any cleaning or maintenance on their solar devices, and this is a truly big problem in terms of operating performance.

Part of the reason that this happens is because solar panels, solar water heaters, and solar pool heaters are oftentimes on the roof of your home and are not easy to access. Because of this many homeowners do not make the extra effort required to do the cleaning themselves. We have this problem with our own solar panels, so we hired a company that does professional cleaning on solar panels and other solar equipment. It has made a huge difference in how our equipment operates.

Seed Types for Home Garden Use

The real difference between seeds and seedlings is that seeds are embryonic plants covered with seed coats (outer layer), and are planted in the ground to develop new plants, while seedlings are actually young plants. When seeds are sprouted in your home garden, they become seedling. Biologically, seeds are more effective for planting in the inside on your home; on the other hand, seedlings are suitable for both inside and outside. Seedlings need “hardening” prior to the outside plantation. Seeds, on the other hand, are best germinated to make seedlings by covering them in a wet paper towel, or in an indoor seed tray.  Learn more about seedlings here.

Completely Different

Gardeners easily identify seeds, as well as the seedling, without any trouble, as both are extremely different in appearance because of different development stages of their lives. Seedlings are young plants, typically composed of a single stem following a couple of tiny leaves. Seeds are hard and small, usually black or brown color. Basically, seeds are just like eggs inside a female’s womb, as well as seedlings are like developing fetus. Obviously, the components or ingredients within a particular type of seed and seedlings are the same; however, they are not the same due to their stage of development. If you are planning to grow vegetables at home in a home garden, it would be recommended to learn the difference.

Of course, the variations in caring also come from the natural differences between seedlings and seeds. For instance, an indoor environment in your home or home’s back patio are ideal for developing a seed into a seedling due to more control over the usual environmental factors like moisture, sunlight, and temperature. The germination process can be started by planting seeds in the soil through a seed tray or placing them in a moist paper towel. Keep in mind that seeds are sensitive and need more care while growing or germinating. Due to their sensitivity level, they can be damaged by a lot of factors, so proper care is necessary, and always use the comfort of your home’s controlled environment to facilitate proper growth.

The seedlings as well as the seeds should be grown differently according to the different factors. However, seedlings are usually ideal outside, such as your home’s backyard garden. Why? Because it allows more exposure to sunlight and enables the seedlings to grow more quickly and much larger. There is a process called “hardening” which should be followed for a smooth transition. Before moving the seedlings outside forever, this process is endured, which is completed by taking the seedling outside in the day and bringing them into your home before night.

One of the major differences between seeds and seedlings is, seeds are better covered while seedling can get hurt if covered. Seedlings can be easily damaged due to humidity, which result in producing many kinds of aphids and fungi. Once the seeds are sprouted, they’ll become seedling and they require fresh air. Both are ideal for growth and germination at your home, it is simply a question of whether it is inside and in your backyard garden outside.

Professional Carpet Cleaning

Professional carpet cleaning is a great way to not only make your carpets look clean and new, but more importantly to give them a good sterilization at least a few times each year. Carpets collect a lot of dirt, allergens, and bacteria over the course of time, and these can be very unhealthy for your family in your pets. This is why it is a good idea to give them a deep and thorough cleaning three or four times each year.

Carpets, due to the natural make-up of their fibers, are very good at collecting allergens and bacteria in a home or in a business. Traditional vacuuming will not remove these harmful pollutants, regardless of how many times you try to vacuum them out. The only way to effectively remove these particles is with professional cleaning equipment from a professional carpet cleaner. Vacuuming alone just does not have the technology and power to properly remove these contaminants.

We have a company, Daytona Carpet Cleaning, that comes to our home at least three or four times each year to give our carpets a thorough and deep cleaning. Their Daytona Beach carpet cleaning is really very powerful, and after they’re done our carpets look and smell just like new. But more importantly, we know that all of the dust, allergens, and bacteria are effectively removed from our carpet fibers, and this type of carpet cleaning in Daytona Beach, FL gives us peace of mind knowing that are home is free from these pollutants.

One thing I like about their cleaning technology is that they do not use excessive water during their cleaning, but rather a dry process that cleans just as well but does not saturate our carpets. This results in our carpets trying in a matter of two or 3 hours, and not being wet all day like the previous company that we used. We used to use another carpet cleaning company in Daytona Beach and after they were complete our carpets would be wet for several days. So we had to put down tarps all around our home so wet carpets would not get dirty it again.
One of the biggest advantages to professional carpet cleaning is removing the pollutants. If you have bacteria and allergens embedded in your carpet around your home, then there’s no way to have a clean and healthy living environment. These pollutants not only contaminate the carpet that they’re on but they also contaminate the air that you breathe. This is why it is imperative to have these nasty particles thoroughly removed at least several times a year.

It does cost a little more than your average cleaning by a maid or a maid service, but it is well worth the extra expense to have your carpets look like new, and to know that they are clean and free from damaging particles and damaging pollutants that can affect not only your entire family but also your pets.
